RV Tips : Securing Your Trash
We've all been there, wake up in the morning, step outside to a beautiful RV Park sunrise, just to find that something has gotten into your trash can and made a huge mess.
RV Parks are wonderful places to vacation, spend time with your family and simply relax. But many animals inhabit these areas. Some of the critters like to venture close to your camping spot in search of food.
There have been several tricks used over the years to keep unwanted visitors (mainly raccoons) out of the trash. We've tried putting it on the roof, in a can with a large rock in it, and tied up in a tree. Nothing worked very well, and usually resulted in the RV Park owner stopping by out spot.
The one thing that worked fairly well in densely wooded areas with known concentrations of raccoons was to rig up a an old five gallon bucket by tying a rope to the handle and cutting the bottom off at about 6 inches. You can then feed a trash bag through the bottom opening and fold it over the top of the handle-ended bucket. This can be suspended from the raised portion of the camper, close to the king pin - or from a nearby tree branch. If the garbage is not on the ground, the animals can't get to it.
