After many years of seeing the country and traveling between climates, it makes sense to inspect your RV Roof periodically. This should be a step-by-step process to be sure you are thoroughly inspecting the important areas. Here are some ideas:

  • Use a ladder to inspect the edges for wear and tear, or damage from rocks, hail or sun
  • Is you have a metal RV roof with seams in it, don;t climb on it. Insted lay a sheet of playwood on it to support your weight
  • Check around the air vents and any duct work for cracks and opening where water can enter
  • Look for any signs of cracking or peeling on the large flat areas
  • Look for rust or deteriorating objects such as screws or metal brackets

Many roofs contains a very thin coating, or membrane, and if not treaded on carefully, will result in RV repair. Check your boots or shoes for stones or dirts clumps before walking on these surfaces. If your roof is aluminum, it can last for many yeas if maintained properly. RV manufacturers use sealants that are made to protect your roof, but if you are traveling in ectremely warm or cold climates, these sealants tend to breakdown and need reapplied often.

To reduce the chance for RV repair. your roof should be inspected about two times a year, if not more.

RV Repair is best done by a certified technician. Camping World provides RV repair services and is the recommended service center for many RVers.
